Today in Diabetic Technology we will be discussing a glucose meter called the Prodigy Voice and the type of technology that is out there for blind and vision impaired diabetics.

There are over 23.6 million Americans alone who have diabetes and there are over 20 million Americans who have experienced vision loss. Now, we don’t have the exact estimate of how many Americans has diabetes and are blind, however, we do know that it is about 19% of the diabetes population.  Also, diabetes is one of the three leading causes of blindness and vision impairment. Below are two videos with Diabetes Health. The first is a video with Eileen Ley, the publisher of Voice of the Diabetic and Director of Diabetes Initiatives for the National Federation of the Blind. In the video she will explain her goal to make all technologies for diabetes accessible to the blind. The second video is one with Chris Gwaltney that features the glucose meter called the Prodigy Voice that Eileen discusses in the first video.
